Wheelchair users can be perverts too!
Being a wheelchair user doesn't make a person non-sexual. We have the same desires and libido as "normal" people, and that includes a variety of kinks and perversions.
Our sexual interests present a whole host of things we need to watch for, be careful of and generally protect ourselves against. Being a wheelchair user, as either Dominant or submissive, brings a whole new set of complications, but can also add a whole new dimension of possibilities. Being the submissive of, or Dominant to, a wheelchair user also requires thought. These pages are intended to be an awareness raising exercise for anyone who is, or may come to be, in a D/s relationship in which a wheelchair is the third partner.

Biography
What gives me the right to write these pages? Simple. I'm a wheelchair user and have been for 7 years and a pervert for many years before that.
I don't claim these pages contain all you need to know. They don't. But they should act as a starting point and give you, the dear reader, some things to think about.
Neither is everything here correct. Every wheelchair user is different, these thoughts are just based on my opinions and experiences. I welcome all comment and additions.

Access
Access is a very important issue. Be aware of not only obvious issues such as steps but also less obvious ones such as floor coverings.
Steps are usually a problem, but not always, check.
- Do use a ramp where possible, or a solid wooden board.
- Do not make the ramp too steep, although the angle will depend on the person.
- Do ensure the ramp is strong enough to support whatever load it will be put under
- Do take extra care if the ramp does not have edge guides.
The width of the wheelchair is also a consideration.
- Most chairs will fit through a normal width door with little difficulty, but check.
- 22 inches is a good guide for the width of a wheelchair, though many are thinner.
- Ensure easily navigable paths through the play space which are wide enough
- leave enough freedom to allow play and a wheelchair without interfering with each other
- Remember a wheelchair can't turn in it's own length, leave space to turn and move.
Also
- Ensure the play space is suitably laid out beforehand, eg make sure everything required is within reach before hand, check for both height and length.
- Do not separate the user from the wheelchair without checking first.
Most importantly what works for one wheelchair user probably wont work for another.

Safety
In addition to the usual safety issues a wheelchair creates it's own unique problems.
- Hanging articles, such as rope, get caught in wheels and immobilize the chair
- How will the sub get free if the disabled Dom/me is incapacitated?
- Consider why the player is chair bound, how else might this affect the scene?
- Are there any other health issues, e.g. Epilsepy or Asthma, to consider?
- Be careful of sharp corners on the wheelchair, especially those hidden or tucked away.
- Consider dexterity, eg can you release the sub fast enough?

Psychological
Being a wheelchair user gives a whole new perspective on life.
- Many wheelchair users are independent. Assistance may offend.
- Wheelchair users often consider their wheelchair a part of themselves. Treat it as such.

Clubs/Dungeons
- If you're lucky enough to afford it, many companies would be delighted to design specialist equipment for a wheelchair user.
- Always check access and regulations before attending a club as fire regulations may be a problem.
- Many clubs will adapt to allow wheelchairs. Keep trying until you find a good one.

Technique
Being disabled does not make a person any less capable as a D/s participant, despite the opinions of some less than qualified people within the scene.
- Choose your partner carefully, consider the wheelchair.
- Every Dom/me should practice beforehand, disabled ones especially so.
- Do not get disheartened if it doesn't work. Try it differently until it works.
- Value yourself and your partner .
- Use suitable tools, eg Long handled floggers
- TENS (electric stimulation) can be extremely effective and very easy to use.
- Think of new punishments using the chair, eg have the submissive clean the wheelchair, thoroughly!
- Include the chair in the scene, eg restrict the submissive by padlocking the chair? A pony powered chair perhaps?
- Be prepared to include unexpected difficulties into the scene.
